For so many prospective internet millionaires and passive earners the road can to succeeding online can be a rocky one. Masses of people are drawn into this world from all manner of places – a simple Google search, an enticing sales letter, noticing the little ‘Affiliates’ link at the bottom of a page. But no matter how they find it, the percentage who get anywhere is small and it is so tempting to give up.
So why exactly is this? How can one person take an ebook and make a business out of its teachings, and hundreds of others get nowhere?
Well the truth is complicated, but one of the main factors has to be the art of taking action.
If you don’t take action then there is simply no chance of getting anywhere, so in some regards, it’s just a matter of shortening the odds.
Here are my tips for getting over that first hurdle and getting into the game.
1] Find one system that works. The temptation is always to learn more and more and that is no bad thing. But when you’re starting out I would suggest you focus your attentions on learning one method, be it PPC, SEO, list building, blogging or any other method. Learn this inside out and become profitable. Master the strategies needed to make solid income before thinking about moving on. Everyone has felt the temptation at times – “Maybe SEO is too tricky. Why don’t I give PPC a shot?” But it is too easy to just move on to the next hyped method or system and never actually master anything.
2] Find one ‘guru’ and stick with them. Again, it can be tempting to want to follow anyone who has made big profits and has a system for you. But this presents the same problems of trying every method under the sun. Find someone who is honest and puts out good material and try not to reinvent the wheel. Follow what they say and do as they recommend.
Does that mean that you should only ever buy one product? Of course not. I think it is essential to always be learning so that you don’t stagnate. But try to see things through to their end.
3] Stop multi-tasking. This can really suck your energies and leave you feeling like you’ve not succeeded anything, even though you’ve been sat at the computer all day. The typical routine is to start some work, then 5 minutes in take a glance at your emails, then look at your Clickbank account, browse some forums, and so on. You’ve been in ‘work mode’ but not really got much done.
4] Don’t rely on one stream of income. Now I know that seems to go against what I’ve previously said so let me clarify. When you start a method of marketing it is important to get good at it and master it to the level that you are profiting and possibly even outsourcing the bulk of the work. But this does not need to take forever. Consider setting aside a period of time to learn the method and work at it. Then introduce a new method. For example working at search engine optimization, and then bring list building into the mix. Then product creation for your best niches and then onto joint ventures.
So try these out and see how you get on. If you’ve been struggling to get it happening for you it may be down to one of these factors, but some simple changes can really make a difference.
